A battered young man protectively holds a baby.

Centuria

Currently enjoying this one the most, not since Hell's Paradise have I seen a protag start their story in a more dire situation. Heavy on the character development, no shallow cast members and satisfying action.

A female warrior
The hero Alicia Glenfall, literally the toughest woman in Hiden · Editorial dashboard

Clevatess

Started reading this after the first season of the anime because I couldn't get enough of this dark fantasy world. Not just a hack and slash there is so many layers and mysteries to this story as you witness the races of humanity and the Lords of the Dark Beasts collide.... Unmissable.

A blonde knight
Vlad of Schoarra · Editorial dashboard

The Stella Swordmaster

The coming of age tale of the young knight Vlad of Schoarra, is griping in it poetic prose and savage depiction of poverty, intrigue and bloody power struggles. Vlad is a wretched slum dweller but one of the brightest diamonds in the rough. Packed with world building and adventure its a moving story of a young man starting in the gutters of Schoarra and rising to become acknowledged as the most promising knight of his generation by this worlds most powerful and deadly nobility. Great webtoon go check it out!

A battered soldier held captive
Xylo Forbartz · Editorial dashboard

Sentenced to be a Hero

Another grim dark fantasy, another protag caught in an impossible to survive situation... I think you guys can see where my tastes lie. Welcome to the life of Xylo Forbartz where the title of 'Hero' has been flipped on its head to literally be an unending death sentence. Forced to fight on the frontline against near infinite demon hordes, death is no escape when your sentenced to be a hero, you kick the bucket they just bring whatevers left of you back stick a sword in your hands and its off to war again with your sorry mind and soul in tatters. Add the power struggles surrounding literal goddesses that walk amongst humanity and Xylo finds himself chosen by one such being much to his chagrin. Needless to say this story navigates the chaos and violence with masterful pace and composure that made this a page turner. Yes I was again late to the party and picked this up post anime but hey, better late than never.

A young Witch readies a spell
Coco the witch · Editorial dashboard

Witch Har Atelier

I've been picking this one up reading a few chapter and putting down. Its my go to whenevr I want something so artful in its composition that I find it therapeutic. Yes i take my time with this one much like I do Frieren I am such a fan of truly almost other-worldy talented artists like Kamome Shirahama and the story by Jun Esaka is the perfect match. The way that Coco's ambitions and problems align is just perfectly executed. The way magic is handled in this story draws a paralell in my mind to learning coding and building apps. It seem so complex and mysterious from the outside but a little knowledge begins to peel back the awe and wonder of something that seems magical layer by layer, until you realise its more closer to a precise science than you think. Anyway this is last but definitely not least and will go down in years to come as a timeless classic up there with the greatest fairytales ever told.
